My vet's office said that their office along with every other vet office in our town and surrounding towns (at least the ones that were represented at a recent seminar that they went to) were talking about this very thing. Seems that this region especially (Tennessee & Ohio Valleys) have had an abundance of unexplained long duration dry cough in small breeds. It's not kennel cough, it's not due to infection. Noone has figured out what it is or why it's happening. I have had it come and go throughout my house several times this winter and at the time I think I've got it licked, here it comes back again! It's exasperating as it's the only symptom that the little ones have gotten. No runny nose, no sneezing, no itching, no diarrhea, no lethargy, no hyperactivity, no nothing....just coughing, dry hacking cough. Don't know what it is, I sometimes wonder if it's just that they're really really sensitive electric heat and how dry the air gets when it's on. Total speculation.
