Sorry to hear about your little one's cough. My Topher had a cough in early March, I believe, and it ended up being tonsillitis! He was treated with antibiotics for 14 days and it seemed to work well, though he did retain a bit of a cough in the night for a while afterward. He's completely fine, now.
I'd check with the vet, again, just to be on the safe side.
