Edie goes outside only. She has a doggie door which leads to a small, secure back yard with a locked, high fence. I leave her alone during the day while I am at work. I know she spends most of the time in the house, but she goes outside when she needs to do her business.
If you are going to do this, make sure your yard is SECURE. I check our fence all the time to make sure there are no ways for her to get out. I keep it locked with a padlock so no one can get in. THe fence is high, and it is wood (you can't see into the yard).
