A regular brush WILL do this - but for those of us who have a yorkie with thick or cottony hair - like Chanel... and Dwana's little KimMee - the rake thins out the hair making it easier to use a regular brush

I've been using one on my Chanel since she turned about 2 years old - if I didn't she would have a TON of hair.

A Silky coated yorkie doesn't need a comb like this...a brush or regular comb work fine. I've never used one on my youngest Cheri. Her hair is just fine as it is.
