Default immature radial physeal closure

Tucker my 7 month old Yorkie has been just diagnosed with immature radial physeal closure, which to put it simply is the growth plates in one of the bones on the front leg have closed but the other bone (the ulna) continues to grow correctly. The ulna now bows outward causing him elbow pain. My vet says he will need to have his radius lengthened which is major orthopedic surgery. My question is has anyone had experience with this or heard of it?
