I always make sure that when I get a puppy that his/her dew claws are removed. They are just a pain to deal with and your dog does not need them. This is a true story... I use to work at a dog grooming salon. The owner came in with the dog whose dew claw she never cut. As a result the dew claw curled and grew into the pad. So before we could even cut the nail we had to pull it out of the pad and cut the nail immediately. Lots of blood, not only was there blood from having the nail pulled out of the pad but there was also blood when cutting the nail because the quick grew to the end of the nail because it was not cut. So always always make sure that if your pup does have dew claws that you keep them short, they tend to grow the fastest and curl in.
