Well it may sound mean and others may hate me but honestly if the cat has claws you probably have nothing to worry about. One good swipe and that's probably all its going to take. I don't remember exactly how our two cats handled Reagan when she first came home but I can say that they didn't like her. I'm sure Reagan got swatted a couple of times. Now the cats tolerate her. They will let her come up and lick on them a little bit and one of them will even play with her once in a blue moon.
I have three large dogs and whenever we get them out to play in the front yard one of our cats who thinks she has to be in the middle of everything will come out to see what's going on. Well sometimes the dogs leave her alone and sometimes one of them will get excited and if one of them gets excited they all do. They've circled her before on a few occassions and she always gets out without a problem.
You will want to watch them I'm not saying you don't have to. You don't want some major cat/dog fight and one of them to get hurt but the cat does know how to take care of itself. Plus the cat could scratch the dogs eye so do watch them, but just to ease your mind the cat probably won't get eaten. And like several have said they will learn to jump on a chair or bed or such to get away.
