I think that all of us one time or another thought there was really a teacup. The small size is what attracks a lot of people to the yorkie breed. But I have read that poodles (who come in a variety of sizes unlike yorkies) are the ones who started the term teacup.

You are so right!! I thought I was buying tea cup poodles. Thats what I thought I was getting. They are now 7 and 10 pound dogs. My yorkie is at 4 pounds. You never know. People see them all together and say the yorkie is the tea cup. The term did start with the poodles. To me it doesn't really matter I love them all, BUT the yorkie is my baby.
