It depends on how long you are going to leave them alone. If you are only going to be gone a few hours, then it's ok to cage them. But in my case, hubby and I are gone for 8 hours a day and I think that is way too long to leave Nikko cooped up in his cage. We lock him in the kitchen with food, water, toys, a bed and wee wee pad. I know he pretty much sleeps most of the day anyway, but if he needs to stretch his little legs, he can do so.
