I'm so sorry to hear such sad news.
Please don't beat yourself up about "could have" and "should haves". You did everything you could and it just wasn't meant to be. I hope this doesn't discourage you from persuing another dog. You have so much love to give and any dog that winds up in your care would be extremely fortunate. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
