I think your best bet is some kind of pen, something that gives them the illusion of freedom so they don’t bark and whine. I used a baby playpen while Ginger was small. You can get them used, real cheap at yard sales. Everyone here uses x-pens. I have no experience with them but they sound really cool—better than the playpen, because over time she was able to jump out.

As far as being able to leave stuff out…forget it. That luxury is not one of a puppy owner. Lol
