Loki is 1 1/2. Sometimes he naps or chews on a toy in his crate, but he sleeps with us. Even if he falls asleep in there at night he will come upstairs and sleep at least in his bed in our room, if not on our bed. I only close his crate when he needs some quiet time or when we are not home.
To answer your question though, they are old enough when they will tell you they need to go outside (bark, bells) rather than just step out of their crate and pee on the floor. We used to close Loki's crate because he would bang on the crate at night to let us know he needed to go outside. Now he just gets up and goes downstairs and rings his bells. |
