Default [News] PDSA Help Restore Blind Yorkie's Sight

The charity People's Dispensary for Sick Animals has helped bring the sight back of a dog who's owners had resigned themselves to his blindness.

The six year old Yorkshire Terrier called Lottie was suffering from a rare disease of the nervous system, but ultimately benefited from the work of PDSA vets and specialists, who provide a free veterinary service to pet owners who cannot afford to pay their vet fees.

Her owners, Charlie and Ethel Cooper from London had noticed their pet running in to walls and furniture. When she had a particularly nasty bump they took her to see a PDSA vet who diagnosed the potentially fatal problem.

Lottie was put on a course of steroids and her worried owners could do nothing but wait to see if the condition improved.

Whilst out taking a stroll in a local part, Lottie astonished her owners by suddenly bounding down a set of steps. This confirmed that the treatment had worked.

Veterinary surgeon Ann Radford said: "She seemed to be in a great deal of pain when her head was touched and she was blinking a lot more than normal. There was no doubt she couldn't see which was obviously making her very confused.

Happily Lottie's condition has improved and she is now back to her old self.
