Thanks everyone for your advice. I think I will find some very big bully sticks at the pet store and leave one in the x-pen on Saturday or Sunday to see what happens. Because I am in and out on the weekends, I will be better able to monitor the puppy's activity. Ironically, our breeder recommended a stick chew made from a pig that comes in a $10 package at Walmart--there must be twenty sticks in the package. She felt they were perfectly safe and could be left in the x-pen--in fact she leaves one with the puppy she held back from our puppy's litter. And so last night I gave one to each of our dogs. The puppy, who is 17 weeks old, managed to break off a piece and was chomping away on the little piece when I noticed and wrestled it away. What I like about the bully stick is that pieces don't seem to break off. |
