The odd time one of my dogs has thrown up it always seems they like do it on a carpet or soft surface like bedding or a blanket...
I even had a whole house of hardwood floors once and my dog when she had to puke would run to the stairs the only surface with carpet and throw up on them.
I think the only thing you would be able to do is when you hear him start to throw up rush him if you can to the lino.
