Try to avoid breeders with more than one or two breeds of dogs. People who keep their dogs in buildings outside of their homes are usually considered to be puppy mills.

That is not to say these are all disreputable breeders but it is an indication that you might want to check closer.

Then the people selling the dogs are not the breeder then they are a broker or a pet shop. Most good breeders will not sell to them because they want to know where heir puppies are going.

And like txshopper73 said, Ask around.
