I'm wondering if the concrete will be too hot in the summer - or is there plenty of shade?

I agree about the flower pot - Rowdy pees on mine everytime we go out front.

I'm also wondering if you can build a planter box (maybe six inches high) with a landscape timber (maybe 2 foot high) standing in it - this is how my mailbox looks - the timber is in the ground (mailbox on top). I put a planter box around it about 6 inches high and EVERYTIME we go out front - Rowdy pees on the mailbox pole. It also would give him some dirt or grass (if you planted it) to pee in or on.
