Get him some safe toys that he can't get hurt on if left alone. The kong is great. Eventually he will be able to keep himself amused during the day, and he will not cry so much.
Can you go home for lunch or do you have anyone who can go visit him during the day for some play time? At least that would break the day up for him so he wouldn't be so lonely!
And I have a question: if you are not there, how do you know he is crying all day?
