I really hate to say this but Yorkies need to be around people. I know you have to work, but maybe you could get him a sitter. I have never had a Yorkie yet that would let me out of their sight and I never leave them alone except for very brief periods where I can’t take them.
However, maybe if you put the little guy in the bathroom with his toys, food, water, and no collar as they can get it stuck in their mouths and choke. Dennis is never happy in the bathroom, but he is safe!
