Hi. I'm sure someone else knows more here than me, but I'll chime in since no one else has yet. :-)
I've had a poodle before Zoie and he had to have his ears plucked too. The groomer/breeder who I got him from would just put special powder in his ear and "pull" the hair out a little at a time. HArd and fast was how it looked to me. She wasn't trying to hurt him, but he yelped when she did it. I know with him the only hair she pulled was the hair in the ear "hole" not the hair that just lines the outside of the ears. It's the hair actually down into the ear, where the hair isn't too thick thank goodness. I had Zoie groomed once already and the groomer didn't even pluck it out. I'm going to find someone else cause I can't bear to do it to her. They also have to express their anal glands, another good reason to go to a groomer!
