I can tell you what I do with mine and maybe it will work for you.
I use a powder madr by R7 for cleaning the hairs out of the ears. Put the powder in and take your finger to move it around in there then use your fingers to start pulling the hair out of the ear canal. You can also use forcups to pull the hair out of the ears.
Only one of mine's hair sticks out like your talking about and I found out he has a cow lick there so it is kept cut shorter.
I use sissors to cut the hair from around his eyes only because I personally do not like the shaved look but if you like it then that's fine what your doing. They do make a pocket trimmer to use around the eyes.
On my males I keep about half the belly hair shaved off as I do not like the pee pee in it all the time.
