This is the same thing I do. My kitchen has ceramic tile and easy to clean and I'm able to gate it off from the rest of my house. My dogs both use pads. Somedays I DO come home to a mess, but better in there than the whole house!! They seem to do fine. They have their little beds, 1 washable rug to drag their toys to (which Scout pees on everyday, that little stinker...I think he doesn't want Pippa to get on the rug, so he makes it his own.) food, water, and a radio. It is a clean up job everyday, but it's pretty easy with a swiffer wet. I puppy proof it by putting the trash can under the sink with the baby lock on it. There really isn't anything for them to get into except their own stuff.
