I just started housebreaking my puppies yesterday! They were pad trained as it was to cold for them to go outside. They have not had any accidents so far, since I know how often they need to go from using the pads it makes it really easy because I know how often to take them out. I am eliminating the use of pads until winter, the snow here gets so deep that my cocker can be in snow deeper than herself, so I could not take them outside to go to the bathroom even if I wanted. I wish I lived somewhere warmer where I could take them out all year round. I believe that in the winter if you can still take them outside perhaps on a covered porch and you can use a pad without confusing them. The concept is for them to go to the bathroom outside, either on the ground during warm weather, or on a pad during cold weather. As long as they learn they are not to go to the bathroom in the house, that they must go outside, everything should work out.
