Smile Introduction:Nazir's

Hello to All,

Thank you for the nice auto generated welcome. I found it very helpful and informative.

I am new here and would like to introduce myself. My name is DorLisa Nazario and I reside in Memphis, TN. I'm originally from Manhattan, NY and have been here, in TN for the past 7 years.

I found this group via word of mouth. Actually, I was referred here by another member who's name is Pat, hi Pat!

I recently joined a yorkie group which I was not pleased with because of the constant advertising and selling of puppies, so I left. There was a serious conflict of interest between the other members (unethical breeders) and myself. I come here, seeking a place where I can learn more about the Yorkshire Terrier breed.

I’d eventually like to meet with others; reputable exhibitors and breeders.
I, one day would like to obtain a show quality Yorkshire Terrier but would first like to learn the ropes involving them; i.e. grooming, care, etc. through hands on experience. My time will come to be loved by this wonderful breed.

I will be working with a well known reputable breeder who has agreed to be of my assistance, involving this breed. This wonderful man‘s name is, Carl Yockum. I’ve known him for a few years now but have not ever related the two; mentoring and friendship, as we have always exhibited two total different breeds.

My interest in joining this group would be to involve myself with those who share my same interest; loving, exhibiting, and bettering the breed as a whole.

More about myself; I've been involved in miniature pinschers since 1998. I obtained my first show quality dog in 2003 from a very respected breeder, who is also my mentor. I also joined my national breed club (MPCA) in 2003. While, at the same time, actively participating with my local kennel clubs. While in college, I studied animals science. I've involved myself in rescue, worked for the Memphis Humane Society as an adoption counselor for several years, worked for the Shelby County Memphis Zoo in the avian department, and have also served as a vet assistant for the Memphis Humane Society and my local animal clinic.

Currently, I'm indulging my personal research in the make up of a dog; genetics!

I recently attended a seminar held at my National Specialty Show called "THE ABC's of DOG BREEDING" instructed by Dr. Claudia W. Orlandi, Ph.D
I found all of what she said quite interesting and have furthered my personal study into the basics of her book. This entails; genetics, the breeding system, pedigrees, anatomy, genetic defects, kennel blindness, and selection. It's a really good book and I'd recommend it for all breeders.

As for my fur kids, they're my world! I now own two dogs. My male finished at 13 months on Feb. 05, 2005 in NJ and my female is still currently showing. She only lacks a major to be finished and we are chasing high and low, going after them.
Presently, I do NOT own a Yorkshire Terrier. I've ALWAYS had an interest in the breed, even as a little girl; however, I knew that I wanted to show my dogs. I figured that my "other breed of choice" would be a better breed for me, as a novice (at the time) to start with. I knew how much work was involved in the upkeep/showing of a Yorkshire Terrier and I just wanted to better prepare myself. I feel as though my time is soon.

I always will see myself loving, exhibiting, and being loved by miniature pinschers and I hope that one day I'll be able to say the same about the Yorkshire Terrier.

I'm looking forward to meeting everyone of you. Feel free to ask me what you'd like, as I am sure that I'll have many questions over time.

Have a nice day,
DorLisa Nazario
