Well I haven’t been around in a while and was thrilled to come back to this thread. I love it. I’ve been looking around for info on the shea pet products and the only review I could ever find was one done with a bulldog, not the same kinda coat what-so-ever. Now my husband won’t be so happy to hear that I need to try it thanks to Rocelle’s review but oh well.
Ok Reagan has a cottony coat, and if I had to choose between thin and thick I would say thin, so thin cottony coat.
Well first I started off with human products mainly a baby shampoo when she was a puppy. After that we went to Groomax (oh how I miss that lavender baby shampoo smell though). I didn’t stick with Groomax, bought at Petsmart, very long though. Honestly it wasn’t so much about the results as the smell. The shampoo was Soothing Oatmeal and didn’t smell to bad, kind of a vanilla smell. The conditioner on the other hand, was Silk Protein and smelled like strawberries, not just any strawberries a very sweet candy like strawberry that gave me a headache. I honestly can’t remember how it worked on her hair though, since I didn’t use it long.
After that I tried and am still using Plush Puppy. I’m so so on the products. I use the Natural Conditioning Shampoo and Silk Protein Conditioner. I also have the Protein Coat Balm and Swishy Coat. I really liked the results when I first started using the products, so a lot of my so so-ness could be from just using it for a while and no new dramatic results instead just the same ole good results all along. After the bath on her wet hair I use a dab of the Swishy Coat (its like a hair gel that straightens the hair) I do love this, I notice a difference from when I use it and when I don’t. Her hair is just so much neater and polished looking. Then I blow dry her and put a bit of Protein Coat Balm on. This kind of helps any fly aways and calms down the hair as well as giving it a soft feel. The scent of the shampoo/conditioner is fairly strong and lasts for a little while so if you don’t like it you do have to live with it for a while. I didn’t mind it so much (but then again I was just coming from that strawberry stuff that I didn’t like at all) but my sister hates the smell and commented several times on how it stunk. I do really like, however that the shampoo and conditioner smell the same, I really don’t like it when they don’t, such as the Groomax vanilla with straberries. One more thing about the products the groomer said that her coat and skin were very healthy when I took her in and this is what we had be using. He said that before he knew what we were using so there wasn't any bias or anything like that. He said that if we change make sure to get another quality shampoo because oftern cheaper shampoos can dry out the coat so I guess he was happy with her results on the PP products.
I have to say though my mother came down around Christmas and in the middle of her visit Reagan was getting a bit itchy so I used the Groomax Oatmeal Shampoo to help with that and finished with the Plush Puppy Conditioner and my mother was very impressed. Reagan was a quite bit silkier, softer, and shinier.
You guys have definitely given me some ideas on things to try, the shea pet maybe and definitely PP’s sea breeze oil. Great thread thanks for starting it. Oh and sorry mine was so long, for those of you who actually read it all.
