I used a whistle in the house and everytime I blew it - my pup would come running like a mad little hatter and get a treat. This really worked well.

Then I took him outside and he was on a long leash (20 or 30 feet away), and I blew the whistle and he came to me just as fast as he could. We did this over and over again. And - he ran as fast as he could to me everytime I blew the whistle.

Then one day, he got loose and was in the back yard. I blew my whistle and had my treat ready - and did he come -- no way!!!!! He just looked at me and went merrily on his way running wherever he wanted to go. It was half an hour before I caught him.

It's not easy - good luck to all of us! Carol Jean
