Here's a simple tip: To avoid cutting, just make the stairs the same width as the wood. This would apply for the stairs Yoda will stand on (horizontal stairs) and the upright stairs he'll never touch. To make it bigger, either buy wider wood, or make it three steps high instead of two, etc.

(Jeez, with these "tips" I really do sound like Martha Stewart! hehe)

Home depo is good because they sell long pieces of wood that you can just cut once to make each section for the stairs.
