My parents always kept Norwegian Elkhounds when we were growing up and my Mom still has one. They are really beautiful and make wonderful guard dogs. I wouldn't mind having one someday.
I have always wanted a Bichon as well. They seem to be one of the friendliest dogs I ever come across.
