  I have never used a heat lamp, but whatever it takes to keep them warm is VERY important!! I use a heating pad. I put a fleece blanket over it or a towel. Anything to keep them warm, but off the direct heat. I guess if you use a heat lamp, it'd do the same thing. But I'd worry that the direct heat might be to much for them. JMHO.
