I looked around a little and did see some variation in the dosage of Benadryl that dogs are given -- but then, often it is being given for different reasons, and this may account for the difference in the dosage.

With that being said - I certainly ran across nothing that advised anywhere that large an dose (25 mg) for a little dog. It does seem that 1 mg per pound was closer in line -- with some variation there - especially for larger dogs.

I am surprised that you checked back with the vet and he again told you 25 mg. Was it "actually the vet" that said this -- or someone working in the office. (If someone was trying to read the doctor's writting - a mistake could have been made...)

I do a lot of medical transcription and we have to be very careful with RX dosages - and we are very aware that "2.5" and "25" can easily be mistaken for one another.

I am still concerned --- Don't give 25 mg to your little dog - call back again!!! And, be sure to speak with the vet - not another person.
