Hi there. I am a fairly new yorkie mama myself but I have been researching my bloodlines and learning all I can about the breed and how to breed. i hope to eventually be a breeder. What I know at this point is that before you stud your male out (or breed your female) the dogs need to be tested for several common genetic defects that yorkies are prone to. Liver Shunt and Luxating Patella being the two worst. They both also need to be tested for STD's. You need to research both the pedigrees to see if anyone back in their history has any problems that your dog may not have now, but could pass on. Also, on the male, you need to have a sperm count done. I know this is not much information but it is about all I have learned so far. |
