ps, I've had tails docked at an older age before w/ great success and while I prefer to have it done shortly after birth that isn't always a possibility. My experience is that we humans would like to think that it causes a great amount of pain to loose a limb like that and from what I've seen it causes us a great deal more pain than it does the dog. You hear horror stories of "phantom" pain and so on and while I'm sure those dogs exist I have yet to come into contact w/ one. More often than not it heals quite quickly and the dogs are no worse for the wear. More spays are more painful than docking of a tail at an older age IMO!
