i've got a climber too. i ended up getting a 4' high gate with bars only and used the gate he can climb at the same time. the high gate had one gap on the side, and the bottom gap that he could slip through when he does some creative contorting with his body. so what i did was have the bars only gate was place facing the confinement area and the cross-hetch gate was placed facing the outside area. that way the gate he can climb prevents him from slipping between the bars of the bars only gate, but is too far for his little legs to reach with enugh leverage to grip and climb.

there was a few times, since i had an ecollar from his neutering (which i found was completely useless because it didn't extend far out enough to prevent him from licking his wounds, but it was prefect for this case) i'd put the ecollar on him so he couldn't slip through or under the bars only gate. because the ecollar didn't extend out far from his nose, it didn't prevent him from eating or drinking with it on. he just looked kinda pitiful and cute at the same time. haha.

now that he's bigger and older, i use only one gate and he doesn't try to slip through it anymore.
