I have never had any problems with any of my dogs getting shots.
Just out of curiosity - was your pup a "tiny little thing." My Yorkie is a "big little guy." And, I really feel that this helps him tolerate a lot - that a very small little pup might be more sensitive to.
I am so sorry for your loss. Not much can be worse.
