If you already have a cotton coat Yorkie, then you would know what cotton looks like. Did you ask the breeder that has the 8 week olds if the parents are silk? If she/he doesn't know, keep going you at least want to buy from someone who knows Yorkies, inside and out.
Don't buy at 8 weeks of age, they should be minimum 12 weeks at time of going to a new home.
You won't know for sure what the coat type will be when the pup is still under 6 months and as I stated before, colour can end up staying dark or going light even in an older puppy. At six months, the breeder should know for sure if it is cotton or silk coat. Under six months, coat type can sometimes be deceiving.
I also agree that if you are just looking for a pet, health and cute would be the most important factor you will be looking for -- and from a reputable breeder.
