Congratulations on your puppy !! I know this isn't the best advise
....but I had both my girls in bed with me the first night...I got up every 2 hours for the first month and only had one accident in my bed.....I would put pillows all around the bed if you are going to have him with you.....or you can crate him and just keep him near you ?
Good luck and keep an eye on that cough....I hope its nothing serious.
