I was in a similar situation once and I wanted to help but didn't know what to do. I just paid the person's (elderly) bill when I paid my own and left without telling her. I hope she wasn't embarrassed or upset, but by then I was long gone and she didn't know who I was. She had been kind to me, so I just looked at it like repaying her kindness.
WOW...what a story almost like her hormones kicked in big time. Watch out! She probablly realized later you were only trying to help. How terrible you must've felt. It's not your fault hun. You did what you thought was right.

Sherrylynn-
Aw that was nice of you. One day at the store I was short on cash. I was buying groceries. I told the clerk to put a few items back and the kind man behind me said "give me what money you have and i'll pay the rest" even though it was like $6 more..i thought that was the kindest most generous thing anyone has ever done for me. I will never for get that! I told him "May god bless you...that was very kind of you" and I walked away.
