It's a tiny dark blue male sign, kinda blurred a bit now. LOVE his tattoo!
Before they had microchips, we had our dogs tattooed with my social security number and then that was registered with the National Dog Registry. IT SAVED THEIR LIVES!!! They (2) were stolen from their locked kennel, as were several other pedigreed dogs in the general area. 4 of the dogs, all with tattoos, were drugged and dumped at a town dump about 20 miles away from us. A gentleman who drove into the dump stopped someone from shooting them, saying that they looked like good dogs. He called the local dog warden. The warden reunited all of the dogs and owners after contacting the Registry. Eventually, this ring of dog thieves operating in Connecticut and New York, was broken up and prosecuted.
The tattoos on my setters were very visible on their bellies, so that is what saved them. Because of that, I have the blue plastic AVID tag that identifies Higgins as a microchipped dog clipped to his harness. I figure that a professional thief would avoid taking a known microchipped dog. |
