I have to agree that I am over protective of my babies. But I don't think that being completely polite would always do the trick. There are many people out there that would take advantage of people who don't stand up to them. I think enough is enough. This woman was obviosly looking to push buttons. She needed to be told that she was crossing the line, and to keep her nose out of others business.
