Whatever!
Don't let this bother you. Don't get defensive and don't be a smart alec! Just politely say:
"I have brought my pup in here often and no one has ever said a word about it. If I was ever told by anyone (in charge) that I couldn't bring my pup in here - I certainly wouldn't. I don't know about different rules for different breeds, but I always try to follow the rules with my little dog."
I think anyone would be hard put to continue criticizing you - if you're honest and polite.
Sometimes I think we little Yorkie owners are so protective of our little pups that sometimes we go around with chips on our shoulders....just waiting for people to say "certain things." No need --- we should just try to present ourselves as nice, responsible, caring people. And, then after this, if people continue to be rude - let's just take our pups and go on our way.
After all - when you're carrying a little dog - it's easier to make a friend than it is to make an enemy.
