Here's my experience.
I've had an ongoing battle with caring for Otis's teeth. Yorkies are prone to losing their teeth no matter how hard you try to take care of them.
When Otis was 3, I had a professional scaler come to my house to remove all of his plaque and tarter. The scaler told me he had several loose teeth and I needed to have them removed before she came back.
Otis got his first professional teethcleaning when he was 4. They removed 4 or 5 loose teeth. The experience was okay. He recovered pretty quickly and we actually went to a small gathering later that night. He was fine.
Now Otis is 6. He got his second teethcleaning on Monday, April 3. Regardless of the fact I brush his teeth regularly, the vet removed 11 adult teeth.
I don't want to scare you, but the past two days have been hell for us. Otis has not been himself.
Things you might want to have on hand:
Boiled shredded chicken breasts with rice.
Cottage cheese.
What kind of antibiotics did the vet give Lexi? Otis got sick off of the Clindadrops. He threw up twice, like a human-type barf, not the biley stuff, and it freaked me out so bad.
Then we had to change his antiinflammatory because he was crying nonstop. He was on Metacam, which didn't work, and we are now using a Torbugesic suspension.
I've been off of work for the past three days and I have a screaming headache between trying to get Otis to eat, and keeping track of all these medications, carrying him around, sleeping with him, petting him, etc. Just today, three days later, have we recognized the old Otis.
Sorry so long, but I hope everything worked a lot better for you and Lexi, and remember even though it may be painful to do this, it is really a good thing in the long run.
Kisses to Lexi. | Poor Otis. Im glad that he is feeling like his old self.
I will have Lexi in my prayers for everything to be ok.I know she will be ok. Please Keep us posted. |
