Schatzie's mom is right on! Dogs are happiest when they KNOW their place in the "pack." And your family is the "pack." He is definitely trying to become alpha dog on the bed and you need to let him know that is NOT acceptable, that YOU are the alpha dog in the pack. It won't take long to straighten him out.
We seem like we let Higgins get away with a lot, but we are careful to watch his "attitude" in doing things, and when it gets "bossy", he gets a lecture and all the fun STOPS right then for a short period of time until he "chills out." It helps that Higgins "dad" is a retired Army sargeant, and Higgins knows it.
