I live by the Jones Institute in Norfolk, VA. Yes, they pay very well for egg donation, but it's certainly not a one time easy money making deal. I'm not sure what they pay now but at one time it was $2,500.00 per harvest. Before they accept you into the program there is a very detailed physical examination plus detailed family history you have to provide. They also make you have psychological testing prior to accepting you. Now if you are accepted into the program what you have to do is the same thing women undergoing in vitro have to do. There is a series of hormone shots. Sometimes they will "teach" your spouse or another to give the injection if you can't go to their office....cause these are not a one time shot...some are daily, some weekly. There are office visits. There is monitoring to determine when you will ovulate. You don't get to "decide" when it's convenient for you, that's up to your body. The hormones are to increase the number of eggs. The removal procedure is done in the facility by laposcopy for them to see. They insert a long needle like thing in your side. If you look at the Jones Institute website you may find far more information than I can provide. Btw, I didn't see your age, but that's also a factor of whether or not they will accept you. It's limited to women in their 20's. Granted all this provided at no cost to you but it is very time consuming.
I do have a friend who did this. I would not consider it. That would be MY child out there somewhere and I am someone who had a problem conceiving so I understand the desire to have children. I would've considered doing it for a family member but no one else. I do not fault anyone who's donated eggs because they've certainly made someone else very, very happy.
Good luck.....
PS Thought of something else...if you are married, your spouse will be required to give his permission too.
