Our vet said to use it between freezes. So basically we wait a couple of weeks after our most likely last overnight freeze and then we start it. After we get a couple of hard freezes in the fall, we stop using it again until spring. Some people use it year-round, regardless of the weather, but since ours are inside most of the time, we just use it in the warmer months. Hope that helps!
