Oh, and why can't the kids come with you? Quick go buy a dvd player for the car and some dvds to keep them occupied. Then your husband can tell the MIL that you bought a really expensive toy for the car too!
If you were like me, this ordeal would make me want the dog even more. OH!! Why can't hubby stay home with the kids, and you go by yourself?
