#2. will be a problem here. I do not release AKC papers for limited registration until I recieve a vet certification for spay/neuter on any pup sold. I recommend this be done at 6 months, so you will not get those 'papers' from me until then. I will gladly show pedigrees on all my dogs and you can see the application for your pup's registration, but you will not get it with your puppy.
In addition I will also add a #4
Get a contract with your pup that guarantees the terms of your agreement with the breeder, including a health guarantee. Mine includes:
10 day return policy with full refund, in case your other pets don't adjust, or it's not what you thought it would be like or whatever reason, fine, no problem, bring the pup back (uninjured, of course)...
1 year health guarantee against congenital problems with $ refunded up to the purchase price of the pup to cover any related vet expenses. I don't believe in replacement puppies, though it is an option. As a puppy buyer, I would not be willing to replace a family member if they had a problem after 6 or 8 months...so a replacement pup would not be a guarantee of anything as far as I was concerned. The exclusion to this is luxating patella, although it can be congenital, it can also be caused environmentally by jumps/drops/falls so cannot be covered. Your breeder should be familiar with the defects that are common to the breed and discuss them.
Lifetime return policy...I insist that any pup be returned to me at any point in it's life that the original owners can no longer care for it. I am not going to contribute to the rescue problem, any dogs I have produced are ultimately my responsibility while they live.
A breeder that asks you lots of questions about your home/lifestyle and answers willingly any questions you ask is a must.
