It has never been an issue.They don't like the smell that much and tend to be cross--the cats--when they have been done,so rush off in the huff for a while. The cats don't let the puppy lick them anyway. For two dogs, i would suggest putting it as near to the skin as possible so that their hair is dry and putting on their collars or a bandana on top for a bit. Then give them a new chew each or take for a walk to distract for a while. Hope this is useful.
