Just a few ideas when you take your yorkie to a groomer for a "puppy cut". Be aware that technically there really is no such thing as a puppy cut. That term can mean lots of things and can be interpreted a lot of ways. I would think that if someone says they want a puppy cut they want the dog to look like a fuzzy little puppy, maybe 3/4 to 1 inch long body like a 3-4 month old puppy. Someone else might think really short like a 6 week old puppy. You need to be specific. Before you go, get out a ruler and think about how long you want the hair so when you go you can really tell the groomer what you want. If you want a round fluffy face, say so. If you plan on keeping a ponytail make sure you tell them that also. Chances are after your puppy's hair elastic is removed and she is bathed and dried (often by someone other than the groomer) all the groomer is seeing is a dog with bangs that are too long and that groomer is probably going to fix that problem. Especially if the ponytail hair is not very long to start with and not obviously being saved for a ponytail. No groomer will send a dog home with hair hanging in it's eyes unless they realize you are trying to grow out a ponytail. Often the person you hand your dog over to is just a receptionist and not the groomer so make sure they write down your instructions and maybe have them read them back to you. Pictures are great. Bring pictures of what you want if you have them. When you get your dog back find out what size blades were used and take a picture when you get home and write the blade sizes on it. If you like the cut you can take the picture with you next time and tell the groomer to do the same thing. If you don't like the cut you can show them the picture and point out what you don't like and have them do it differently.
