Well - mine was 10 weeks old when I had to go back to work - and I have to be gone for 6 or 7 hours. My dogs have never seemed to be any the worse for it.

Now at 7 months, my Yorkie is very used to being home alone for that amount of time - at least four days a week.

I do have another dog - but my pup is confined to the kitchen - and the other dog isn't. And the other dog sleeps the day away - clear on the other side of the room - actually where the pup can't even see him.

I leave a light on and radio on.

They are both thrilled to see me when I get home - but even more than seeing me - they want to go outside....whether I go with them or not! Go figure!

Millions of Americans get puppies and then have to go back to work. So - I guess it works!! You stay-at-home moms just have a good thing going - wish we could all do that!

Does it help to know that most breeds sleep 14 to 16 hours a day?
Especially house dogs, of course.
