I have mine set up in a corner of the yard. As long as the chemicals
are added as required I have never noticed it emitting any smells at
all. No one even realizes it's there to be honest. As far as pricing
goes...with just one little dog you won't use that much chemical so
refills shouldn't run too high. The initial cost seemed worth it to us
and even though it doesn't seem to keep up very well with the HUGE
dog's presents I am still glad that we have it.
